(pdf, german, 0,6 MB)
In this lecture from 16th of April 2008 we presented an overview about IP routing. We talked about distance vectors, the Bellman-Ford algorithm, the routing information protocol RIP, about link state according to Dijkstra, link state routing, OSPF and the border gateway protocol BGP.
Security Track: Unix System Security 20080430
(pdf, german, 0,3 MB)
In this lecture from 30th of April 2008 we presented methods to strenghten Unix system security. We explained basic security features such as permission handling and logging. Then we presented classic security issues such as buffer overflows and SQL injection. Additionally, we discussed password hardening, sandboxing with chroot and rootkip detection with tripwire and integrit.
Security Track: Basic Network Security 20080514
(pdf, german, 2,5 MB)
The lecture of May 14th, 2008 gave an overview of security measures for local networks that are often overlooked. The first part gives a critical view on firewalls and expains how to prevent attacks to lower network layers via VLAN and 802.1x. The second part details how to recognize attacks using scanners, sniffer and IDS systems.
Simulation Track: Network Simulation with the Network Simulator NS2 20080528
(pdf, german, 1 MB)
The lecture of May 28th, 2008 introduced the NS2 network simulator and its internals like nodes, links, queues and delays and the error model. As examples, we show how to model the differences between TCP and UDP. We also show how to model MobileIP and IPv6.
Broadband Track: Internet access via DSL 20080611
(pdf, english, 0,8 MB)
In this lecture from 11th of June 2008 we presented an architecture overview of broadband internet access networks. The first part of the lecture was focused on DSL as carrier technology and the typical design of DSL networks, including the network components DSLAM and BRAS. The second part illustrated voice communication over internet technology (VoIP) via the SIP protocol and it's part in modern DSL networks.
