Videos of Big Techday 21 online

On 24 September 2021, we celebrated our 14th Big Techday for the 14th time - this year as a hybrid event partly on site in Munich and partly online. The lectures by TNG employees and renowned external experts covered a number of exciting topics from science and technology: not just information technology, but also about physics, mathematics, culture and sport. At the Big Techday, participants learned about quantum computing, microservices and data warehousing, but also about mountain bike racing and hydrofoil catamarans.
You can find many of the presentations here as videos. For an overview of all the speakers and the content of the presentations, go here.

Üdvözöljük irodánkban (= Welcome to our office)

Our location in Hungary is growing and growing. We now have 12 colleagues on site in Budapest. So far they have been working exclusively from home but now they also have the option to bring some variety into their daily routine: We have a new office in a coworking space in the very center of Budapest which is well worth seeing!

The ABC Conjecture with Matt Parker

Think the ABC Conjecture is too abstract and incomprehensible? Not if you explain it with Lego bricks and lots of blue dots! If anyone can make complex mathematics understandable, it's Matt Parker: Youtuber, standup mathematician and speaker at this year's Big Techday. In his video, he makes the ABC conjecture accessible to non-mathematicians. The idea and visualisations were provided by our colleagues Sebastian Stamminger and Daniel Pape. "It was really cool to work with Matt. When do you ever get the chance to meet a real YouTube star?" says Sebastian. The result of the collaboration is this video. And not only that: under Daniel's guidance, one of our interns also developed a browser programme with which you can find your own ABC triples. Take a look and try it out.

The first TNG autumn retreat

Last weekend, after more than 2 years, the Interalpen Hotel Tyrol opened its doors again for TNG and our first ever autumn retreat - of course with a strict hygiene concept, and as a 2G event (participants must be vaccinated or recovered). As always at our retreats, work and leisure went hand in hand. In small groups, we programmed and developed exciting features for our customers in hackathons and in various leisure activities, some of us climbed the Hohe Munde mountain in Telfs, learned to play golf or worked out in fitness classes. Most importantly however, we finally got to see each other in person again.

TNG Hungary breaks the barrier of 10

Today marks a very special anniversary: one year ago, the first colleague started working for TNG abroad. Now, things look quite different - we now have a total of 17 colleagues working outside Germany. Our branch office in Budapest is growing particularly quickly. We are happy to announce that 3 new colleagues are starting in Hungary today. This is the first time we have broken the barrier of 10. Üdv a TNG-nél - Welcome to TNG!

Show some love - Summer retreat 2021

One event, over 500 people, countless good ideas and probably the biggest video call in TNG history: Our motto for this year's summer retreat last Friday was "Show some love". As always, there was a lot of discussion and the sense of community at TNG was further strengthened by the exchanges in virtual coffee breaks and during joint leisure activities. We are proud of our biggest virtual retreat so far and thank the organization and tech team for a seamless event.

Der erste TNGler in der Schweiz

We're off into the big, wide world: we are becoming even more international!

With colleagues living in Bulgaria, Hungary, Austria and Australia, on the 1st of July, we will welcome our first TNG employee based in Switzerland.

We are looking forward to many lines of code (in "Schwyzerdütsch") and hopefully delicious fondue in the coming weeks and months.

Animated Buttons in the t3n magazine

The latest issue of "t3n" magazine features the article "Bewegte Buttons" (Animated buttons) by one of our TNG colleagues. It should be fun to use websites and so UX/UI is becoming increasingly important. Thanks to CSS transitions and animations, fluid effects are now possible, even without JavaScript. The article explains how these technologies work in the browser and where developers should be careful of pitfalls.

TNG lectures in retrospect

Digital formats have never been more important than during the pandemic. Our employees were able to continue to network, educate themselves and share their knowledge via virtual lectures and workshops. At the beginning of the year, two of our colleagues gave two guest lectures, including a workshop, as part of a computer science class at the Technical University of Munich to show the students the practical application of Haskell in everyday work. On this occasion, TNG also awarded a prize to the best students of the semester for a special project. In the spring, our staff gave no less than three talks or presented showcases at the OOP 2021 conference, including one on "Brain Computer Interfaces Demystified - Can Thoughts Take Control?". The TNG talk "Deepfakes 2.0 - How neural networks are changing our world" is much loved and has been given at several conferences, such as CodeDays and JavaLand 2021, since the beginning of the year alone. The topic of deepfakes has also been featured several times on television, including Galileo and Leschs Kosmos.
