Event Modeling III: Design decisions

November 6th, 2025

Our colleague Dr. Nils‑Oliver Linden created a three-part series on Event Modeling, covering the concept and its use in everyday software development. The third and final part focuses on the design decisions within an Event Model. It outlines key choices, their pros and cons, and how they interrelate to keep the model efficient, understandable, and maintainable.

As a Principal Consultant, Nils‑Oliver worked on one of our client projects at RIO | The Logistics Flow, a Munich-based software company specializing in digital services for the logistics and transport industry. At RIO, event modeling and event sourcing are considered key approaches to providing transparency in worldwide supply chains that involve thousands of suppliers and span from order placement to transport ordering and execution.
